LAKELAND, Tenn. — For the second consecutive week, a Lakeland Prep football player has been nominated for both the Commercial Appeal and Daily Memphian Athlete of the Week honors.

This week, senior wide receiver Conner Jones is among the area standouts being recognized after another impressive performance for the Lions. Jones, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound senior, helped lead Lakeland Prep to its second consecutive victory, catching six passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions’ 35-8 win over Millington.

Jones’ performance was notable not only for his production in the victory, but also for what he accomplished over the course of his career. With his six receptions against Millington, Jones moved into 14th place on Tennessee’s all-time career receptions list with 159 catches.

Jones is joined in this week’s Athlete of the Week competition by standout players from several Memphis-area programs, including Briarcrest Christian, St. George’s Independent School, Houston High School and Christian Brothers High School (CBHS).

The recognition continues a strong start to the season for Lakeland Prep, which opened the year with a loss to Covington before responding with back-to-back victories. Jones has been a key contributor to the Lions’ offensive success and remains one of the team’s top playmakers as the season progresses.
