Lakeland Preparatory continues to make its presence felt among the Memphis area’s top high school athletes.

Senior running back Bennett Filsinger is the latest Lakeland Prep standout to be nominated for The Commercial Appeal’s Memphis-area Boys High School Athlete of the Week. Filsinger earned the nomination after carrying the ball 22 times for 144 yards and a touchdown in Lakeland Prep’s 64-50 loss to Haywood on Sept. 11.

The nomination marks the third consecutive week a different Lakeland Prep football player has appeared on the Mid-South athlete of the week list.

Senior wide receiver Conner Jones was nominated the previous week, followed by senior quarterback Brett Godwin the week before. That makes Lakeland Prep the only Memphis-area school to have three different athletes nominated in three consecutive weeks.

Filsinger has been a key part of the Lions’ offense this season and currently leads Lakeland Prep in rushing, while Jones and Godwin have also been among the team’s top statistical performers.

Voting for Filsinger is open through Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.
